I came home from a date once feeling like I’d been catfished — again — and sat there wondering if I was ever going to find someone who looked like me and shared my status.

I have HSV. I know the sites we’re supposed to use. I know what it feels like to open Positive Singles, pay more than the app is worth, and scroll through fake profiles and people I would never otherwise have crossed paths with. I’ve read the same complaints in the Facebook communities I belong to — outdated technology, prices that keep climbing, and profiles that clearly aren’t real. I agreed with every one of them.

I’ve been a software engineer for over fifteen years, and the gap between what we deserve and what exists has been on my mind for a long time. So I built this, quietly, for us.

Colors of Love is what I would have wanted that night. A community where every member is verified with a live selfie, so the person on the other side is real. A space centered on people of color living with HSV, where nothing about you needs explaining. A place where your status is a private disclosure — held inside the community, never shown on the public web.

I refuse to compromise on safety. I refuse to compromise on quality. And I hold the pricing honest — it covers the infrastructure to run the app securely, my time to build and maintain it, and a portion goes to organizations working on HSV research and support.
